Eco-Tools Brush Review

by - Tuesday, March 30, 2010

I recently snagged some great brushes that were really inexpensive and environmentally friendly.
Eco-Tools is a brand of brushes and accessories that claim to be environmentally friendly but using less packaging (that can be reused as a case), bamboo for handles or recycled aluminum for casings and ferrules (that metal part that holds the brushes to the handles). As well they do not use animal hair for the brushes, only taklon.
I managed to pick up a Bamboo Bronzer Brush, Bamboo Deluxe Concealer Brush
and a Recycled Aluminum Retractable Kabuki at my local Walmart.

Recycled Aluminium Retractible Kabuki ($10.87)
Eco-tools Discription of the Brush:
• Great for applying face powder or bronzer
• Soft, cruelty-free bristles
• Natural & recycled materials

This earth-friendly powder brush provides a smooth, soft finish and sets your makeup. And, it shows respect for the planet:

• Retractable case is made from Recycled Aluminum.
• Synthetic taklon bristles are 100% cruelty free.

HOW TO USE:

• Dip in loose or pressed powder and tap of excess. Lightly blend makeup over entire face to create a smooth, soft finish.
• Also great for blush or bronzer
I really really really liked this brush (really!). It was super soft, dense but not too dense and travel friendly (which is means it is a great companion in my purse with my Mac MSF). I found I was able to buff my foundation to a nice glow without too much hassle, I also found that it created great coverage. I find it much softer than my Mac 182 SE brush that I got last winter, in fact my Mac one feels scratchy in comparison. The handle is a little long for a kabuki, but it is understandable since it is retractible.

Bamboo Bronzer Brush ($10.47)
Eco-tools Discription of the Brush:
THIS EARTH-FRIENDLY BRUSH SHOWS RESPECT FOR THE PLANET:
• Highly sustainable bamboo handle
• 100% cruelty-free, soft taklon bristles
• Recycled aluminum ferrule
• Reusable storage pouch
HOW TO USE:
• Glide brush across pressed or loose bronzer and tap off excess.
• Apply where the sun would naturally hit for a beautiful, luminous finish.
Over all this is very similar to the retractable kabuki brush in density and overall style. I really loved how soft this brush was and how great it was for buffing my mineral makeup.

Bamboo Deluxe Concealer Brush ($4.47)
Eco-tools Description of the Brush:
THIS EARTH-FRIENDLY BRUSH SHOWS RESPECT FOR THE PLANET:
• Highly sustainable bamboo handle
• 100% cruelty-free, soft taklon bristles
• Recycled aluminum ferrule
• Reusable storage pouch
HOW TO USE:
• Use tip of brush to apply and flat portion to blend. Conceal dark under-eye circles, sun spots, and other minor imperfections.
I really love this brush too! It is a larger concealer brush that blends extremely well. Super soft and well built the brush has been really helpful with my recent breakout.  The packaging also claims it makes a great cream eyeshadow brush, this I have not tried but I am sure it is great for it since it blends so well.

Overall the line is cheap, well built, soft and good for the environment. I would highly recommend checking the line out if you see it in the stores.
